Portugal fight back but it just wasnt good enough to beat the mighty Germans
Published Friday, 20 June 2008 by Mr P.X.A inGermany claimed a fantastic victory today over a poor Portuguese performance. 22 minutes into the game and the Germans are off to a 1-0 lead with a brilliant goal from Schweinsteiger who was fed a fantastic ball from Podolski, Germany were off to a great start.
And as if that wasn't enough Klose puts it past Ricardo and a terrible Portugease defence to make it 2-0 from a wonderful free kick by Schweinsteiger just 4 minutes after the first, Germany were on fire and Portugal had alot to catch up on.
With Big Phil pulling at what hair he has left Nuno Gomez puts it past Lehman bringing Portugal right back in the game making it 2-1.
With everything looking up for Portugal Chelsea's mighty Ballack heads one past Ricardo near enough destroying all hope for a weak Portugal side making it 3-1.
So with 29 minutes left in the clock Portugal put up a decent fight to claw their way back into the game and in the 87th minute Postiga takes full advantage of Nani's cross and makes it 3-2. All was possible but with 3 minutes left on the clock and 4 minutes of added injury time, Portugal weren't up to the challenge and 94 minutes and a brilliant game later Germany were victorious and boy did they deserve it.
So there you have it, Portugal are the first team out of the quarter finals and Germany are the first to claim a semi final spot. Who will join them ?
